Students to punctuate as they listen to and watch the show, considering the intended effect. This worked so well for my set 2 year 11 class and they thoroughly enjoyed the task!

A lesson that introduces the concept of grammar, morphology and syntax. The start of the lesson gets students to consider prescriptive vs descriptive language analysis, highlighting the importance of A Level focus being descriptive. Then students are introduced to the linguistic rank scale where each one is focused on in detail and with examples. This study is them applied to an advert for Clarins, where students analyse how the grammar and morphological choices impact on the reader, in relation to the form audience and purpose.

2hrs worth of lesson on AO2: Language and structure analysis of War of the Worlds. The extract used is on the Powerpoint itself and is rich in language and structural features, such as the paragraphs growing as the martian grows. Task on entry of structural analysis of the soundtrack to the film. Truly engaged my set 2 year 11!

Lesson and worksheet to introduce students to AO3- comparison of writer's methods, rooted in context. Differentiated learning objectives throughout, and with further differentiation on each slide Creation and application of 'STAPLE' acronym to help students remember the ingredients of a fantastic response for Q4 in language paper 2 of the AQA examination. Has been used with a range of abilities in KS3 and 4 with lots success: it's a visual, engaging way to introduce students to a complex skill, before applying to words. Based on two videos linked by the theme of war, to complement our 'War Genre' unit.

This was produced for a 90 minute lesson, but could easily be shrunk or extended to suit your needs. This lesson involves students watching and analysing three different 2016 Christmas adverts, considering features the writers have used to achieve effect and make use of ideologies. This is perfect for all AOs of the spec, allowing them to apply their skills to a visual form. I will be using the grid to get students to produce an analysis of the adverts, based on their critical understanding (AO4). All links are located on the Powerpoint, which has differentated learning objectives on each slide, and I have produced a scaffolded grid to enable students to write whilst watching. A lesson in which students write a speech about their role models, based on a reading analysis of Barack Obama's statement on the death of Muhammed Ali. Includes: Powerpoint with prompts for students, as well as mark schemes. The original statement given by Obama, in which students can identify their own features. Scaffolded grid with examples from the speech and space for students to write in the corresponding feature. A model response, used for them to assess and improve. Could also be used to meet the speaking and listening aspect of the exam.
